My 3D Artefact
For my final project, I decided to create a flower vase to demonstrate the skills I've learned this year. I incorporated techniques from millinery, mixed materials, and print to make it happen.
My design
The inspiration
I made my vase using cardboard, paper mache, and a balloon because it gave me the perfect shape I wanted. Originally, I thought I'd use plastazote, but this method worked out better. Then, to make it look more like a real artifact, I added a mixed media collage that I printed onto the vase for extra texture.
I decided to print onto the vase using a really similiar colour so that I could draw a design on top.
I wanted to showcase my millinery skills, so I cut sinamay strips on the bias and used steam to give them stretch. Then, I shaped them into roses and attached melted worbla leaves to the stems. It was a great opportunity to blend techniques from my millinery and mixed media classes, and I'm really happy with the outcome
To mix things up in the bouquet, I made some flowers out of organza. I folded triangles into strips, sewed them down, and wrapped them around to create different shapes. I also added worbla leaves to these flowers. It was a fun way to add more variety and texture to the bouquet.
Finished artefact
Reflection
Overall I am very happy with my finished artefact. I believe I demonstrated numerous skills I learnt from skills passport. As these skills were fairly new to me I do accept that this artefact could look a bit more polished if i were to repeat this project. Nevertheless, I think I was successful in demonstrating techniques from this skills passport module to create a finished outcome.
