Everyday people

For the construction element of our 'Everyday people' project, we experimented with slashing and spreading techniques to create patterns for four, half scale mannekins.

Here, we traced basic sleeve patterns before slashing and spreading them to create different silhouttes.

For this bodice I added two darts to my pattern, and added sleeves that I slashed and spread to create more of a bell shape.

For this bodice I closed the darts using panels.

I experimented with different necklines for bodice number three.

This bodice was my favourite to create. I added space in the darts so I could create gathers in the bodice. I then shortened the basic sleeve pattern and spread them to create gathers, before binding with ribbon.

Reflection

I really enjoyed this project and found the pattern alteration lessons extremely helpful. Overall, I'm very proud of my half scale bodices and think these will help me to pattern draft and produce garments in the future.
